This small town is just 2½ hours drive east of Cape Town in the direction of South Africa's famous Garden Route. Klippe Rivier is a wonderful place to stop on your outward or return journey on a Garden Route trip.

Swellendam is backed by the most beautiful range of folded granite and sandstone mountains, and a 20-minute light aircraft flight from the local flying club is a great way to view them. The town also has many historic buildings and some excellent curio shops, restaurants and cafes.
