Grande Dédale is situated on the beautiful Doolhof Wine Estate in Wellington at the foot of the Bainskloof Pass. It is surrounded by scenic vineyards and fynbos and has lovely views across to dramatic mountain ranges. The name Dédale means “Great Labyrinth” which gets its name from the many hills in the area, which means that there is only one route in and out.
Grande Dédale on the Doolhof Wine Estate is the ideal base to explore the Cape Winelands. The historic town of Wellington is just 5 minutes away. You can enjoy many fine South African wines while exploring the Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch wine routes. The Cape Town city centre and Cape Town International Airport are a 45 minute drive away.
Directions to Grande Dédale from Cape Town
- From Cape Town, take the N1 towards Paarl
- Take exit 47 marked R44 Stellenbosch/Wellington and turn left towards Wellington
- Keep on straight for approximately 25 kilometers (15.5 miles)
- You will cross a four-way stop and two sets of traffic lights until you reach a large junction with traffic lights (new shopping center in front of you) - turn left towards Wellington
- After a few hundred meters you will reach more traffic lights with a large white church on the left (the Moeder Kerk) - turn right into Church Street/Kerk Straat (signs for Bainskloof Pass)
- Continue on through Wellington towards the mountains (Bainskloof Pass)
- As you leave the town, the road climbs and bends to the right. You will see Bovlei Winery, a large cream building on your right
- Immediately after this you will reach a sign marked Hill Road on your left
- Take this road and then turn immediately right (follow the signs for Doolhof Wine Estate - Grand Dédale is on Doolhof Wine Estate)
- You will reach a T-junction. Turn right again
- The road soon becomes a gravel road. Keep straight on to the end (about 4 km (2.5 miles)), pass through Welvanpas and you will eventually come to double gates to Doolhof
Directions from Cape Town International Airport
- As you leave the airport, take the N2 towards Somerset West
- After several kilometers, turn into the R300, directions Belleville (exit 22B)
- At the end of the R300, take the N1 towards Paarl
- From here follow the directions from Cape Town (as above).
